About this app

The Wood Pole Guide app provides critical information needed to properly specify and use preservative-treated wood poles.

Explore the preservatives used to protect wood poles from deterioration. Review videos detailing national standards that are the foundation for designing and engineering overhead systems with wood poles.

Also featured are Technical Bulletins providing engineering information for wood poles, as well as service life and environment benefits of poles. Users also can learn about wood crossarms and their important role in overhead systems.

The Engineering Tools section features an ANSI Dimension Calculator that shows the circumference 6 ft. from the butt end of the pole, based on the species, length, minimum top circumference and class. The Pole Weight Estimator provides the range of weights for each species, based on the length and class of the pole. In both utilities, users can select the criteria and search for the specific pole desired.

A new Outreach section offers details on a coloring book for elementary school-aged children that can be customized for utilities for community outreach activities.

Utilities, engineers and others can utilize the app to make informed decisions on specifying wood poles for their specific need and area. A directory provides contact information for the leading treated pole and crossarm manufacturers in the U.S. and Canada.

The app is produced by the North American Wood Pole Council, representing wood pole producers in the West, the South and Canada.
